Geography & terrain

Bandhavgarh National Park rolls across about 1,436 km² (820 km² core) of the Vindhya foothills in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh — sal, bamboo and grass valleys rising to the dramatic Bandhavgarh fort plateau, one of the most tiger-dense landscapes of India.

History & culture

The fort on the plateau was a stronghold of the Baghel kings and earlier rulers for over a thousand years; the reserve was declared in 1968 and thrived on protection — its white-tiger lineage, the famous tigress Sita, and record densities made it a global tiger showcase. Today the Tala, Magdhi and Khitauli zones lead the safari map.
