Geography & terrain

Anshi National Park forms the core of the Kali Tiger Reserve in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka — 340 sq km of evergreen forest in the Dandeli country, its hills falling from the Western Ghats' crest toward the Kali river's gorge.

History & culture

The forest was long the reserve of the region's timber and hunting past; declared a national park in 1987 and folded into the Kali Tiger Reserve with Dandeli's forests, Anshi now guards the ghats' last deep evergreen — known among the region's naturalists for the black-panther sightings that its dark forest produces.
